Many of the most tragic tales are hidden behind an impressive career. Lolo Jones, champion of the USA and World hurdles, has earned this title after a long period of dedication and perseverance. Jones was the only member of a family with five children, and grew up in a very poor environment. She lived with her mom in the basement of a church, and was constantly in motion. Jones had an erratic and mobile lifestyle up until she enrolled in high school, had to transfer to a brand new school each year. Jones, who was interested in the track events during her time at Theodore Roosevelt high school, stayed in a different place from her mother so that she could follow her passion. Jones stayed in four residences during her high school time to pursue her education in a single location. Jones won her the Gatorade Iowa Track and Field Athlete of the Year award at school and was also involved in the school orchestra, as cellist.
